May/June 1998 Dear Friends, Although 'Gays' are a very small minority 1)they have become highly visible even in South Africa, especially in the spiritual and cultural realm - in the media and the arts. The church which traditionally has been a bulwark against immorality sometimes condones and even defends homosexuality in the name of 'love'. 2) Thus the most important cultural institutions of Western civilization - those which are meant to produce sound hearts and minds among the people and encourage their most noble aspirations - are being corrupted by an unhealthy and destructive orientation. In previous ages homosexuals tried to hide their shame, but now they have fought and are winning their own 'liberation' struggle. They have organised themselves in national and international associations. They have become assertive and parade an exhibitionist 'gay pride' In South Africa they have fought for and achieved constitutional protection. The R.S.A. Constitution reads: 7he state may not unfairly discriminate directly or indirectly against anyone on one or more grounds, including race, gender, sex, pregnancy, marital status, ethnic or social origin, colour, sexual orientation... " In Europe, too, homosexuals claim protection under the Amsterdam Treaty of the European Union. Since June 1997 "the (European) Council... may take appropriate action to combat discrimination based on sex, racial or ethnic origin, religious belief, disability, age or sexual orientation... Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Sweden offer marriage-like same-sex legal partnerships, and Holland, too, is aiming to legalise marriages for homosexuals. In Britain homosexuals have succeeded in getting the age of consent reduced from 21 to 18 - with an anticipated further reduction to 16. Rachel Tingle of the Christian Studies Centre, London, writes: "There are also some indications that gay-rights campaigners will not be content with a reduction in the age of consent to 16 and may continue to campaign for a reduction to 12 as in Holland. " 3) The word 'gay', used in its normal sense, means cheerful, lighthearted, joyful. But in reality 'gays' are anything but happy and gay. A distressed mother recently wrote to her Bishop about the 'frightening changes " that had taken place in her son. He had been a successful student who worked hard on his doctorate. But then he came under the influence of homosexuals. His whole character, life and perspective changed. His work suffered. He was caught m "a paralysing pattern". His life lost "all continuity". Whereas he had led "a socially normal life" and "enjoyed the company of the other sex", hoping "to marry and have a family like his brother and sister", a "destructive element had come into his life. " His mother lamented: 7t is like an evil Power which takes hold of the sensitive types, which offers to save them. from the insecurities and uncertainties of life. " Her son, she found, had exchanged normal aspirations with "hedonism, egotism and sexism. ', 4) 'Gay' activists like to claim that homosexuality is something innate and fixed - that it is due to a gene, that it is 'normal' They claim that 'gay is good' * The British Professor Peter Campbell of the Conservative Group for Homosexual Equality says: "Homosexuality, like left-handedness, is a fact of life about some people who do not differ in other respects from the majority; that is it is not a matter of seduction, corruption, perversion or whim.5) Thus homosexuals are made to believe that they have no choice about their homosexuality - that they are predestined to and locked into that lifestyle whether they like it or not. To really emphasise this point, the 'Gay Movement' has even changed the language. It is abolishing the term 'sexual preference and replacing it with 'sexual orientation', for the word 'preference' denotes that there is a way out - that a person can change his lifestyle if he so prefers. Indeed, according to one doctor 35% of all homosexuals who come for treatment, recover. 6) If a doctor can do that, how much more can God do if a homosexual comes to him for forgiveness and help! But release from bondage is not part of the 'gay' agenda. That is why they abolish the term ~reference' and replace it with the word 'orientation ' 'Orientation' implies that a homosexual has no choice - that there is no way out. This is the way he is made. 'Gay rights' activists are trying anything to cover up for the fact that homosexuality is not a genetic condition, but that many older homosexuals tend to initiate or corrupt children into a homosexual lifestyle, and that men "in positions of authority" 7) seduce youths who depend on them for their advancement. In order to lock the unfortunates in forever, 'gay' rights activists also try their utmost to "discourage psychologists and other mental health professionals. from providing treatment designed to change sexual orientation... " and to "ban therapeutic treatment for homosexuals. " 8) The distressed mother mentioned above blames her family's misfortune on a campaign of "well organised seduction" which entices young men to seek "a pleasant life without the challenges and responsibilities of a wife and family. .f In her letter to the Bishop she says: "With perfect strategy, the organisers are trying to get hold of all the insecure, timid, soft young men and manipulate them. " The Church, she feels, is trying too hard to be loving - 'to understand everything' and to forgive everything' She implores her to take a firmer stand, and finally asks the question: "Is it too much trouble, too unthankful a task for the Church, to confront the spirit of our time? Indeed, the Church should teach love, but a love which is linked to Truth. In the face of personal ruin she should uphold the message of redemption. ",o) The Bible says: "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination... lest the land vomit you out. when you defile it... " (Lev. 18:22-30) But 'gay rights' activists see nothing immoral in their doings. As the word "right" implies, they demand fall public approval of their life style and equal standing with more than equal benefits from state and society. Indeed, in some countries (e.g. England) they have been so successful that children in school sex education classes are now being taught a positive attitude towards homosexuality. They have claimed the high moral ground, saying that it is 'immoral' not to give 'loving' expression to one's sexuality Thus they corrupt the traditional concept of 'Love', for Christian love is a love which seeks the other's good - not his defilement. Christian teaching links 'love' to 'law'. That is why Paul can say: "Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. " (Romans 13: 10) Seducing a child or young adult into homosexuality is certainly "doing wrong to a neighbour". In Biblical terms it amounts to a rejection of God. Paul, looking at a godless world, says: "They exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator.. For this reason God gave them up to dishonourable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error.. Though they know God's decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them but approve those who practise them. " (Romans 1:22-2:16) The Mosaic Law is even stronger' in its condemnation, saying: "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them. " (Lev. 20: 13-22f - See also I Cor. 6:9-11). Homosexual 'love' then, in terms of God's Word, is not only godless and wicked. It is also essentially unfruitful. For God's command from the beginning of time, given to all living things, is: "Be fruitful and multiply. " (Genesis 1) 'Gay activists' are therefore eager to "rewrite the Bible" and "update the Koran". 10) They are trying to get the Church to sanction their lif6style. Indeed, they have succeeded to recruit both priests and Bishops into their ranks. Not only do they want to overcome the Church's objection to the 'gay' lifestyle, but also the Church's answer to all who want to free themselves from it. For homosexuality can be overcome! After castigating homosexuals Paul says to the Corinthians: 'And such were some of you. But you were washed you were sanctified you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. " (I Cor. 6:9-11) So any homosexual who wants to get out, can get out. All he needs to do is to repent of his sins, turn around, and with God's help walk the straight and narrow path. "if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us: But, if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. " (I John 1:8-9) May God
