Praise God for Answered Prayers! Woolworths and

Christian Magazines Back in Woolworths
It only took a few days for Woolworths to rethink their decision to pull five Christian magazines off their shelves. Hundreds of phone calls and emails to Woolworths stores and the CEO, (mobilised by alerts sent out by JOY and the Family Policy Institute) plus a press release from the President of AFM churches, Dr. Isak Burger threatening to boycott Woolworths, demonstrated once again the power of Christian prayer and action.

We were reliably informed that somebody high up in Woolworths was offended by an article in one of the Christian magazines and decided to throw out all Christian literature as a result.

The Christian magazines affected were: Finesse, Lig, Leef, JOY! and JUIG!.

When Errol Naidoo, and the magazines in question, enquired about this alarming trend from Woolworths CEO, Simon Susman, they got contradictory responses. Mr. Susman's response to his enquiry was that "Woolworths has had a policy in place for many years of not stocking political & religious magazines in their stores". Apparently, the retailing of Christian magazines in Woolworths Stores was done in error over the past eight years!

According to Mr. Susman, Woolworths suddenly realised their error and booted the Christian magazines out of their stores. However, political magazines like Time and Newsweek were not.

In response to a question from a Christian shopper on the Woolworths Facebook page, their legal department provides a completely contradictory response - citing poor sales. We know this to be a lie because thousands of copies of Joy! and Juig! have been purchased by Woolworths customers.

www.timesalive.co.za quotes Woolworths spokesperson, Julian Novak, as giving the reason for their restocking of the magazines as that they had received "a lot of feedback" from customers following the withdrawal of the publications.

Please write to Woolworths CEO Simon Susman: SimonSusman@woolworths.co.za. Thank him for changing his mind. Next time you are in a Woolworths store, please check that JOY! magazines are on the magazine rack and notify the manager if they are not.

Offensive T-shirts Removed from Markhams
Thank you to all those who wrote to Markham expressing your concern at their sexist and sexually immoral T-shirts. We have received confirmation from the Communications Director that Markham will be removing the shirts from stores with immediate effect.

Please write to Foschini Group Communications Director Kathryn Sakalis: KathrynS@tfg.co.za and Markham's Managing Director Manie Maritz: maniem@markham.co.za. Thank them for this decision. Please encourage Markham not to stock such offensive T-shirts in the future.
