NATIONWIDE LIFE CHAINSPROCLAIM RIGHT TO LIFE OF THE PRE-BORNUp to a million Christians in approximately 1 450 cities worldwide took part in the various Life Chains this 3 October, International Life ChainSunday. About 70 Christians formed a Life Chain to proclaim the sanctity of life in Cape Town. The Life Chain inCape Town took place on the centre island ofBuitengracht Street (near the entrance to the Waterfront). Life Chains also took place in 5 other cities in South Africa: Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London, and Bloemfontein. About 450 people participated in the Durban Life Chain. A lady who had an abortion but has now repented and received healing through Christ, shared her testimony at the Life Chain. The Life Chain is an international prayer rally and peaceful placard protest against the abortion holocaust. About 2 000 Pro-life leaflets and Gospel tracts were distributed to motorists and pedestrians at the Cape Town Life Chain. The new pedestrian bridge over the traffic island in Buitengracht Street provided a good opportunity to display a new billboard-sized banner proclaiming "Abortion: The Ultimate Child Abuse" to the thousands of cars streaming through underneath. Over one million babies have been legally killed through abortion in South Africa, since 1 February 1997. The slaughter of over a million pre-born babies by legal abortion and millions more in illegal or 'backstreet' abortions can be compared to genocide. The pre-born are being deliberately and systematically targeted for destruction at an unprecedented rate. Genocide can be defined as the deliberate and systematic destruction of a national, racial, religious, ethnic or other group defined by the exterminators as 'undesirable'. The 'national group' is South Africa's 'unwanted' pre-born children and they are being slaughtered by abortionists in an elaborate network of killing centres. The pre-born are regularly dehumanized by abortionists with terms such as 'termination of pregnancies', 'products of conception' and 'foetuses'. These terms hide the reality of the personhood of the pre-born. Life begins at conception. The pre-born baby is then genetically, physiologically and organically a distinct person. At about three weeks after conception the baby's heartbeat can be detected. Six weeks after conception the baby has its own lifelong brainwave. When a nation devalues its most helpless and innocent citizens and allows them to be slaughtered in their millions, it is no wonder that all other life is treated as cheap. It is an urgent priority for the Church to expose, oppose, and end this genocide of children made in the image of God. Since 1987 Life Chains have been held in the USA, and since 1992 Africa Christian Action has organised Life Chains in South Africa. This was the 18 th Life Chain held in Cape Town. Gifts, such as baby items, in support of the Moreson Children's Home were collected at the Cape Town Life Chain. National Alliance for Life Forum The National Alliance for Life Forum held in Durban on Saturday, 2 October helped mobilise more people to participate in the Durban Life Chain. Most of the pro-life organisations, including Doctors for Life, Christians for Truth, Concerned Young People, the Christian Action Network, Africa Cares for Life, Christian Health Care Workers Fellowship, Human Life International, and the Christian Medical and Dental Association in South Africa were represented, as well as pastors from several different denominations. Upcoming: Pretoria Life Chain Pretoria: Saturday, 6 November. Contact the Biblical Christian Network: bibcnet@gmail.com or 083 359 5093 or 083 556 7600.
