NATIONWIDE PRO-LIFE MARCHES ON NATIONAL DAY OF REPENTANCE

On 1 February 1997 abortion-on-demand was legalised in South Africa. By 1 February 2008 over 700 000 South African babies had lost their lives through abortion - legally - with tax payers money.

Cape Town: On Friday, 1 February 2008, a funeral procession was hosted by the Christian Action Network in memory of the thousands of babies, killed by abortion, who have never had a funeral. Marchers carried small coffins and crosses and were led by a hearse. A six metre billboard trailer, with the words, “Abortion Kills Babies”, and “Speak Up For Those Who Cannot Speak For Themselves” (Proverbs 31:8) followed the marchers.

About 100 Christians, including numerous pastors from different denominations took part in the procession and gathered afterwards to pray outside the main gates of Parliament in Cape Town.

Cheryllyn Dudley, M.P, who spoke at the Prayer Vigil, thanked all pro-life groups for their efforts and said that some members of Parliament were influenced by the submissions given at the Abortion Amendment Act hearings, and convinced that changes should be made, even though the Act was rushed through by the National Assembly without any changes. In a media release, Cheryllyn Dudley said, "The ACDP sympathises with South Africans mourning the loss of lives taken through legal abortion.Independent polls show the CTOP Act (abortion law) to be South Africa's most unpopular law and that most South Africans believe abortion to be morally wrong, the vast majority of doctors and nurses oppose it, and medical advances are giving more mothers reason to consider options other than abortion. The ACDP believes it is just a question of time before overwhelming public sentiment opposing abortion is expressed at the ballot box."

Pastor Errol Naidoo, President of the Family Policy Institute, said that "we can blame Eskom for the physical darkness but we can't blame them for the spiritual darkness in our nation. We, the Church, are to blame for the spiritual darkness."

Participants at the Prayer Vigil prayed an Imprecatory Prayer Proclamation, calling on the nation and government leaders to repent of the national sin of abortion and warning them of God's judgement if they do not repent.

Obituary notices were placed in Die Burger and The Citizen newspapers in memory of all babies killed by abortion since 1997. Some newspapers refused to accept these obituary notices.

In Durban, about 160 people attended a Life Chain on Sunday 27 January, hosted by Christians For Truth.

In East London, a "Celebration of Life" seminar and tea was well attended, with gripping testimonies and an excellent presentation by Pauline Lamerton of the Port Alfred crisis pregnancy centre - PLIGHT. Participants are eager to revive their crisis pregnancy centre.

In Queenstown, an obituary notice mourning the babies killed by abortion was placed in the local newspaper, and a thousand flyers were handed out inviting people to the Full Gospel Church's Sanctity Life Sunday service.

In Port Elizabeth, a small Funeral Procession march with a hearse, led by Pastor Jimmy Davis of Glenroy Christian Centre, was held from St Georges Park to the City Hall.

In Middelburg, a prayer rally was held on the town square and outside the abortion clinic.

In Palm Springs, a township near Vanderbijl Park, a march was hosted by the Uniting Reformed Church. Rev Swart Booysen told the 350 participants, "Since the inception of this law in 1997, 700 000 have been executed by the killing machines of South Africa. Shame on you, South Africa". The march received good media coverage in the Daily Sun and the Sowetan.

Every abortion stops a beating heart. Life is precious and should be protected.
