SIGN UP TO PRAY FOR VICTIMS OF TRAFFICKING DURING WORLD CUP

Human trafficking is modern-day slavery. Victims are deceived or coerced into forced labor or sexual exploitation. It is estimated that trafficking generates around $32 billion annually. This makes trafficking of people the second most lucrative crime in the world behind drugs.

Half of the 1.2 million children who are trafficked each year are African. The large majority of these children find themselves enslaved in the commercial sex trade. South Africa is a known source, transit, and destination country for human trafficking. With the FIFA World Cup coming to South Africa in June 2010, there is great concern that thousands of men, women and children will be trafficked into and within the country for the purposes of sexual exploitation.

Lamentations 2:19 says "Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at the head of every street."

On May 23, 2010 Project 2:19 (a ministry of Youth With A Mission) will kick off the opening of a 24-7 Prayer Room at Cape Town Baptist Church. How beautiful would it be to see the body of Christ come together and cry out to the Lord on behalf of the victims of trafficking? In an effort to see this happen, they have invited international teams to come and stand alongside South Africans, to bring this before the Lord together in Cape Town.

Justice ACTs, a ministry of Youth With A Mission (YWAM), is a South African based counter trafficking ministry who has a long term investment in South Africa. (www.justiceacts.org). They aim to empower the most at risk for human trafficking to protect themselves and equip the average person to combat it. In addition to prevention through education and awareness, victim assistance is also heavy upon their hearts, as they believe that the Lord is the only one who can offer true freedom and redemption to those who have suffered at the hands of this exploitative trade.

Justice ACTS will have a threefold focus during the World Cup:

  • presenting Traffick Proof to the most at risk and training others to do the same. (Over 25,000 South Africans have heard the Traffick Proofed presentation)
  • ministry to prostitutes.
  • intercession .

Isaiah 62:6-7 says "On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest, and give him no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth." Similar to this, Project 2:19 believes we should stand watch over the city of Cape Town, that we should take no rest and stand with God against the forces of evil who want to exploit men, women, and children.

Justice Acts would like to invite your church to be a part of this important time of prayer. Beginning on May 23rd, for 50 days they will stand watch and pray around the clock concerning the issue of human trafficking, the perpetrators and victims. Please join them by signing up for an hour prayer slot, or by joining their corporate times of worship and prayer each night. Both the corporate times of worship and prayer, and the hourly prayer slots will take place at Cape Town Baptist Church.

In addition Justice ACTs wants to empower you or your group to combat human trafficking and minister to prostitutes. Contact them to set up a training session so that you can be equipped to teach "Traffick Proof" or for ministry to prostitutes. (They ʼll even take your group out with them to reach the prostitutes.)
