RESPONSE TO SPCA'S STATEMENT RE CONFISCATED HORSES

Thank you so much to all those who responded to the email we sent out regarding the horses that were returned to an abusive owner by the SPCA.

The SPCA has sent out a standard reply to everyone, which I too received from Sarah Scarth. She is the PRO for the SPCA and it is her job to back Allan Perrins (the CEO of Grassy Park SPCA) up and to justify their bad judgement in this case.

While I believe that the SPCA in general does a wonderful job, (my own horse, a most wonderful animal, comes from the SPCA, so I know what I'm talking about) unfortunately and sadly to the detriment of these 15 (one was put down) horses, they failed miserably.

The statement the SPCA is putting out is basically saying that I got it all wrong and that in fact everything is under control and the horses will be cared for from now on.

The point I have been trying to make is that:

  • It is no excuse to say someone else was allegedly taking care of Mr Norris's horses while he was away. As a horse owner of more than 30 years myself, it is my ultimate responsibility to ensure the safe-keeping of my horses.
  • Mr Norris is NOT a first time offender when it comes to gross neglect of his horses. He has had horses confiscated before.
  • The original stables in which the horses were found, were in a shocking, dilapidated condition not fit for any living creature.
  • I did not get my facts wrong as the SPCA is suggesting. For ethical reasons I am not in a position to divulge more, but suffice to say, I would never make the statement I did, were I not 100% sure of the truth.

I trust this will clear things up for anyone who was doubtful of the authenticity of the report sent out by Africa Christian Action.

My hope and prayer is that, with the added pressure from people such as yourselves, these beautiful creatures that God made, will indeed be given a second chance at a better life and most especially, that such a situation will never again arise and that the SPCA will stand their ground and fight for the animals they have promised to protect.

I am going to send a separate email to Sarah Scarth and Allan Perrins (CEO) and request that they send us current photographs of the horses as they are now and of the stables they have reportedly been sent to check.
