Truth About Abortion DVD Causes a Stir
A Durban pro-lifer, Keith Pillay, is a shining example of how one person can make a difference by speaking up for the pre-born.
The graphic video, The Truth About Abortion, contains edited footage from the God's Miracle of Life DVD as well as The Hard Truth by former abortionist-turned-pro-lifer Dr Bernard Nathanson. Keith simply copied the DVD on his DVD duplicator and then advertised free copies on radio, his local newspaper and at a Pro-life display at his local shopping mall.
Several city councillors, MPs, school teachers and pastors have also seen the DVD. A local journalist also received a copy and then published the story, which made it onto www.iol.co.za. The article was originally published on page 3 of Tribune on April 13, 2008.
Requests have been coming in from far and wide for this DVD and several women who were considering an abortion were dissuaded from murdering their baby
Pillay embarked on the project in 2006 after a Pro-life presentation given by Africa Christian Action and after watching a "shocking" Pro-life video on abortion at his church.
"After watching the video, I committed myself to helping women make an informed decision when it comes to abortion. The formation of Chatsworth Missions was a result.
"Biblically, it is wrong to take a life. I am against surgical termination and medical abortions induced by the use of the abortion pills," he said. "I have had tremendous support from family and friends, but the documentary was not created for financial gain or to shock. It aims to educate.”
Africa Christian Action received permission from Dr William Lile to reproduce the God's Miracle of Life DVD here in South Africa. Dr Bernard Nathanson's Hard Truth presentation is downloadable off the Internet.
Since the release of the DVD, Pillay has received an overwhelming response from members of the Chatsworth community who support his work.
The documentary shows the different stages of the pre-born baby's development in the womb and the different gruesome abortion methods.
In recent years, he said, there had been an increase in advertising of so-called "safe abortions" at private clinics. "We fear the physical and psychological risks involved in back-door and legal abortions could be more detrimental to the lives of women than they realise.”
Chatsworth Missions plans workshops at schools, churches and youth organisations to promote abortion awareness.
"We do not ostracise women who have had abortions. However, we aim to help those who are faced with this predicament to make an informed decision.
"If a woman has had an abortion and is struggling with the physical and psychological impact of this, we will try to assist her and refer her to a crisis centre for counselling.”
Marie Stopes coastal programme director Andy Raman, who was given a copy of the video by the Herald, has condemned the distribution of the DVD, labelling it as misleading.
"The video is highly emotional and influential because it was created with the intention of preventing women from exercising their right to choose.”
“It seems however, that the abortionists are upset because they do not want women to know what really happens in an abortion,” Pillay said.
