NATIONWIDE LIFE CHAINS
EXPOSE LIES OF ABORTIONISTS

Sunday, 5 October was International Life Chain Sunday. As many as a million Christians in approximately 1 300 locations worldwide proclaimed the Right to Life of the pre-born. Life Chains took place in 7 different cities in South Africa, in: Empangeni, Durban, Nelspruit, Vosloorus, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, and Cape Town.

In Cape Town about 200 Christians formed a Life Chain to proclaim the sanctity of life. The Life Chain inCape Town took place on the centre island ofBuitengracht Street (near the entrance to the Waterfront). Executive Deputy Mayor Grant Haskin opened the Life Chain in prayer, praying that women who are facing a crisis pregnancy at this time would choose Life and would receive the help and support that they need. Gifts, such as baby items, for the Moreson Children’s Home were collected at the Life Chain. Unlike last year, when stalwart pro-lifers endured wind, rain and hail in freezing conditions, this year’s Life Chain in Cape Town was blessed with warm, sunny weather.

International Co-ordinator of the Christian Action Network, Taryn Hodgson encouraged the Cape Town participants that they were “part of a growing pro-life movement in South Africa and across the world" and that  "by God’s Grace, thecombined prayer and action of pro-lifers will one day result in abortion not only being illegal but also unthinkable.”

Over 5 000 pro-life and Gospel leaflets were distributed to passing motorists at traffic lights.

The Life Chain is an international prayer vigil and peaceful placard protest against the abortion holocaust.

The Life Chains recognise the abortion holocaust as one of the greatest recurring crimes being committed in the world today. It is time that the lies of abortionists are exposed. Many abortionists lie to women for money. They tell women that a baby is not fully formed until 5 months and yet at 3 weeks a pre-born baby has a heartbeat and at 6 weeks, brainwaves. They tell women that it won’t hurt and yet the procedure is extremely painful. They also fail to warn women of the terrible psychological after-effects such as depression and nightmares.

It can confidently be contended that there are now more illegal abortions occurring than there were before abortion was legalised. This is ironic as the main reason touted for the legalisation of abortion by the ANC was to provide ‘safe’ abortions. More women are now having abortions than ever before. This is exactly what the Christian Action Network warned about in its submissions to Parliament (in 1995) – that the legalisation of abortion would greatly increase the demand.

In Empangeni, 120 members of Christians for Truth (CFT), marched from the taxi rank to the state hospital dressed in black and carrying miniature coffins. Passers by asked whether there were corpses of real babies in their coffins. A Memorandum of Concern was handed to a representative from the hospital. This was the first Life Chain ever held in Empangeni.

In Durban, about 50 CFT members formed a Life Chain along Umgeni Road. They received many thumbs up from passing motorists. Radio Khwezi and Good News Community Radio conducted interviews with the participants.

A Life Chain was also held for the first time in Nelspruit and was hosted by the Christian Party. A wreath was placed at the entrance to the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature as well as at the entrance to the Marie Stopes abortuary. Numerous media opportunities resulted. No less than 4352 babies were killed in Mpumalanga between April 2007 and March 2008. The press release was circulated in churches and prayers lead from the pulpit on the pro-life issue.

11 people gathered outside the Marie Stopes abortuary in Bryanston, Johannesburg on Saturday, 4 October for outreach and prayer. A group called the Culture of Life Campaign meets to pray outside the clinic on the first Saturday of every month. A participant reported seeing an armoured Fidelity Guard Cash van arriving to collect the abortuary’s blood money.

Marie Stopes carries out over a third of the officially recorded abortions in South Africa, raking in over R15 million each year. US President George Bush has recently denied funding to Marie Stopes International, alleging that the organisation is involved in “forced abortions and sterilizations” in China.

Let us continue to pray that God will save lives through the united focused prayers and witness of these Life Chains.

“If you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength! Rescue those who are led away to death; hold back those staggering towards slaughter. If you say, but we knew nothing about this, does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Will He not repay each person according to what he has done?” Proverbs 24:10 -12
