Russia Bans Internet Pornography

Russia’s ban on internet pornography is the country’s latest move to strengthen Biblical family values in the country.

Court Ruling
According to a report on International Business Times, a Russian court has instructed Roskomnadzor, the country’s state-controlled Internet watchdog, to block 136 websites hosting “pornographic material” under the terms of international conventions signed in 1910 and 1923. Vague language in the ruling, first reported by the newspaper Izvestia, means all Internet pornography could soon be illegal in Russia.

The ruling comes after a district attorney in Tartarstan’s Apastovksy district cited the regulations put in place in the early 20th Century in Czarist Russia and then the USSR, respectively. All of the websites on the list, including some of the most frequently visited in the world, must be blocked within the next three days, Global Voices Online reported.

Illegal Distribution of Pornography Banned
The court banned the illegal distribution of pornography, though it failed to precisely define what “legal distribution” of pornography is, meaning millions of other Russian pornography websites could soon be knocked offline as well.

Pro-Family Conference

In 2014, the Russian government hosted an International Conference on Family and Christian Values, in which 1000 delegates from around the world, confronted the "epoch of instability and social crisis" threatening "all key spheres of human development and civilisation. The destruction of moral standards… goodness, truth and beauty, and destruction of Faith in a creative natural order that distinguishes good from evil" was analysed and countered with pro-life, pro-family, moral Christian standards. Delegates discussed the "profound philosophical transformations…" of the "historical foundations of civilised human life…"

"Marriage between man and woman, with many children" was recognised as "the foundation of civilisation" and all threats to the family and war against the children through abortion, pornography, the redefinition of marriage, secular humanist education, evolutionism, and degenerate entertainment, as promoted by Hollywood, need to be exposed and opposed.

Homosexual Brainwashing Banned
Russia has passed two laws in the last few years strengthening the penalties for "propagating homosexuality amongst minors, and for insulting peoples' religious convictions in public." The so-called Gay Propaganda Bill introduces fines for propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations to minors, including on the media, on the internet and via viral adverts. Under this new law, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transvestite (LGBT) rallies are prohibited, as is the distribution aimed at forming non-traditional sexual morality in children. Fines and imprisonment are prescribed for the propagation of homosexuality in Russia.

Cash Benefits for Large Families
In 2012 the Russian government started giving cash payments and other benefits to mothers having a second child. Current birth rates show an average of 1.7 children are born to each Russian woman, but the president urged a huge leap in family-building. In a speech he said payments for those having a third child would begin in 2013. “I am convinced that the norm in Russia should become a family with three children.” Last year, abortion advertising and abortions after 12 weeks were also banned.

European Countries Waking Up

Russia is the latest in European countries that are waking up to realise the devastating impact of internet pornography on families. Iceland is considering installing blocks on Internet porn.Last year, the UK persuaded all internet service providers in the UK to automatically block pornography on all their users’ internet-enabled devices. This action came in the wake of government-commissioned research projects on the sexualisation of children and a shocking survey which found that nine percent of boys as young as 13 watch porn online daily. Other research found that 562 children (98 percent of them boys) have sexually abused other children (2009-2012).

Protection of Children Urged
In a speech last year, Prime Minister David Cameron urged decisive action to protect children: "In the darkest corners of the internet, there are things going on that are a direct danger to our children, and that must be stamped out. I'm not making this speech because I want to moralise or scaremonger, but because I feel profoundly as a politician, and as a father, that the time for action has come. This is, quite simply, about how we protect our children and their innocence."

Failure of Atheist Propaganda
Putin in churchAlong with these pro-family legislative moves, the appointing of chaplains in the military, printing Bibles for hotels and attending services in the cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the failure of the atheist experiment in Russia seems complete. 70 Years of atheist propaganda and violent communist persecution failed to exterminate the Christian Faith of the Russian people.
