Letter to the Editor

2 October 2007

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves

It is shocking to hear that the number of teenagers having abortions has doubled since 2001. Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang released new figures recently showing that 9,895 teenagers 18 and younger got abortions in 2006 compared with 4,423 in 2001.

This is a clear indication that government and Love Life sex education curriculum have failed to prevent teenage pregnancies. When a nation devalues its most helpless and innocent citizens – preborn babies, it is also an indication that justice has failed. The “normalisation” of abortion has further increased the belief that one can use violence to get what one wants.

This coming Sunday – 7 October, is International Life Chain Sunday where many Christians in Cape Town will be speaking up for the right to life of the pre-born and praying for God to have mercy on South Africa.

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Sincerely,

Taryn Hodgson
