PRACTICAL STEPS TO REFORMATION

- Transforming our Communities

We want God to bless our nation – but God cannot bless a nation in rebellion to His Laws. We cannot expect God to bless a country that kills babies – legally - with tax payers money, which legalises and tolerates blasphemy as entertainment and which removes Bible education from the public schools. “See the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.” Nehemiah 2:17

Working for Reformation by Establishing a Christian Calendar:

  1. Start or join an Action Group in your city. There are Action Groups that already exist all over South Africa. You may want to join an existing Action Group, start one yourself, or you may simply want to inform, inspire and involve your Cell Group, or Bible Study Fellowship, in prayer and action from the materials that we provide.

  2. Request a Starter Pack from Africa Christian Action and purchase a copy of Make a Difference: A Christian Action Handbook for Southern Africa. The Starter Pack has notes on everything you need to know to mobilise your congregation in making a difference in your community. Make a Difference has excellent Bible Studies and "sound byte" information on pressing issues such as abortion, pornography, evolution and abstinence plus lots of How To's on letter writing, public speaking, events and outreaches.
  1. Use Human Rights Day as an opportunity to campaign for the most basic right of all – the right to life of the most helpless and innocent of all – pre-born babies (Friday, 21 March 2008).
  1. Observe Good Friday as the most solemn holiday of the year contemplating the sacrifice of Christ that redeemed us from our sins (Friday, 21 March 2008).
  1. Celebrate Resurrection Sunday as the most joyous holiday of the year. We serve a risen Saviour. Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life (23 March 2008).
  1. Celebrate Ascension Day. Forty days after Easter Sunday, Jesus ascended into Heaven. He is King of kings and Lord of lords. He has all authority in Heaven and on earth. We must therefore go and make disciples of all nations… teaching them to obey all things that the Lord has commanded (Thursday, 1 May 2008).
  1. Celebrate Pentecost Sunday – the official birthday of the Church. We need to continually go on being filled with the Holy Spirit (11 May 2008).
  1. Attend the Biblical Worldview Summit in Cape Town (27 June - 4 July 2008). The Summit equips people with the facts and skills they need to deal with humanism and evolutionism and how to apply the Lordship of Jesus Christ to all areas of life.
  1. Sponsor missionary candidates to participate in the Great Commission Course, held by Frontline Fellowship in Cape Town the last week of June and first 2 weeks of July (27 June - 16 July 2008).
  1. Use National Women’s Day (Saturday 9 August) as an opportunity to campaign against the exploitative pornography industry.
  1. Participate in the Christians For Truth Conference held early September each year at KwaSizabantu Mission in Kwa-Zulu Natal (5-7 September 2008).
  1. Promote International Life Chain Sunday (the first Sunday in October) with a prayer vigil and placard protest against abortion at a busy intersection in your city (5 October 2008).
  1. Celebrate Reformation Day (31 October) either by participating in the Reformation Celebration in Cape Town or by organising a special seminar or service at your church or school.
  1. Observe the International Day of Prayer (IDOP) for the Persecuted Church (second Sunday in November) each year (9 November 2008).
  1. Celebrate Christmas as the official birthday of the King of kings. Remind family and friends that Jesus Christ is the reason for the season. Wise men still seek Him. Christmas is a great time for evangelism, reaching out to the poor and lonely, for Christ centred Christmas cards to relatives and witnessing to strangers. Put Christ back into Xmas.
  1. Celebrate Sanctity Life Sunday by preaching on the Sanctity of Life – closest Sunday to 1 February.
  1. Observe the anniversary of the legalisation of abortion on demand in South Africa (1 February) as a National Day of Repentance.
  1. Attend the KwaSizabantu Minister’s Conference in Kwa-Zulu Natal (every second year at the beginning of March, the next one will be in March 2009).

  1. How to Organise your own Women’s Day Outreach

Women need real protection and respect – practical action, not pious platitudes and public holidays! Why not use Women’s Day this year (9 August) as an opportunity to inform, inspire and involve people in promoting awareness and taking action against the exploitation of women through rape, pornography and abortion?

You can download our Women’s Day leaflet here:
http://www.christianaction.org.za/ACA Womens Day Leaflet.pdf

On the 9 August, Women’s Day, Africa Christian Action will be setting up literature tables in three different shopping malls in the Cape Town area – Sanlam Centre - Khayelitsha, Canal Walk and Somerset Mall. Why don’t you consider doing a similar outreach in your area?

Follow the 9 P’s and you will be on your way to successfully making a positive difference to the lives of our precious women and children.

Operation Nehemiah

You can start an action group. One person can make a difference. For over thirteen years Africa Christian Action has been equipping and mobilising Christians to be salt and light in their communities. Our training seminars, radio programmes, rallies and literature have helped many thousands of concerned Christians make a difference for Christ in their communities.

Since ACA launched Operation Clean Sweep in 1991 over 9000 stores have been persuaded to stop selling pornographic magazines. Several magazines we targeted, such as Scope, went bankrupt and closed down.

In the Bible, in the book of Nehemiah, we see principles for grass roots action.

INFORMATION.

“My people perish for lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6. We must be informed. It is when people are informed that they can be inspired to prayer and action. Christian Action seeks to provide the spiritual ammunition that you need to be effective in the fight for the right to life of pre-born babies, the war against pornography, and the battle for the family.

Information is cheap. Raw information which makes up the bulk of newspapers today does not cost very much and in fact is used to start fires or to line cat litter boxes and is thrown out only a few days after it is published.

Understanding is valuable. Wisdom and discernment, which helps us to grasp the essence of an issue, is of great value. Penetrating articles and any insightful analysis or relevant newsletters should be cut out and filed for future reference or action.

Participation is precious. That which helps us get involved in making a difference to any important project is most precious. Whatever can help us be more effective in fulfilling the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ is of eternal importance. Christian Action not only provides valuable insights and Biblical perspectives on the tough issues of the day, but invites your active participation in applying the Lordship of Christ to all areas of life. The goal of ACA is not only to inform and to inspire, but to involve. You are encouraged to educate and enlist others in this Biblical movement: to motivate and mobilise the church to be salt and light in society.

INVOLVEMENT.

“Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and raise up the age old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets With Dwellings.” Isaiah 58:12. Nehemiah researched amongst the rubble and developed a plan to motivate and mobilise the community to rebuild their portion of the wall. Yet, while each group of families had their own part of the wall to work on, they were united in the common goal. They “worked with all their hearts” together to achieve the main goal to rebuild the wall. And when Nehemiah sounded the trumpet, all rallied to that part of the wall that was under attack for the common defence. “The work is extensive and spread out, and we are widely separated from each other along the wall. Whenever you hear the sound of the trumpet, join us there. Our God will fight for us!” Nehemiah 4:19

Our trumpets in this Operation Nehemiah include the Christian Action magazine, the www.christianaction.org.za website, and the e-groups. Do be sure that you are subscribed and on the mailing list for the Christian Action magazine, that ACA has your e-mail address so that you can be kept up to date with the e-updates. And do visit the Christian Action website regularly to stay in touch with upcoming events and projects. Also stay tuned to your local Christian community radio station for up-to-date report backs and information.

INTERCESSION.

“Then Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.” Luke 18:1

We are either praying or we have given up. If we have given up, it is probably because we neglected to pray. We need to be informed, we need to be involved, and we need to be interceding. Prayer is our foundation for action.

If you are interested in starting a Christian Action group, all you need to do is to find one or two others who will join you in meeting together regularly, to pray over and discuss projects and challenges. Write to Christian Action and request a Christian Action Starter Pack. You can also purchase Make A Difference A Christian Action Handbook for Southern Africa. Sign up, subscribe, tune in, get networked and stay in touch. Together we can transform our communities – by changing lives.

“Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud.” Proverbs 8:1-3

One Person Can Make a Difference

“I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before Me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it…” Ezekiel 22:30

The battle for the family is intensifying. It is a battle for hearts, minds and souls.  It is a spiritual battle that will determine the shape and direction of schools, society and young lives.

As Christians, we are called to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16).  We need to shine the light of Scripture on the darkness and decay in our society, and work to rebuild the moral, pro-life and pro-family foundations and principles in every area of life.  We need to love our neighbour as ourself, we need to combat the pornography plague and counteract the curse of compromise and cowardice.  We need to fight for the Faith and for the freedom to study God’s Word in our schools.

Our Lord Jesus taught us that we “should always pray and not give up.”  In the parable of the persistent widow, Jesus taught us that even an unjust judge will give in and do what is right in response to persistent prayer and pressure (Luke 18:1-8).

You can start an action group.  One person can make a difference.

In the Bible, in the Book of Nehemiah, we see principles for grassroots action.

The Pink Agenda

The Pink Agenda warns of the Pink Agenda (the homosexualising of South Africa) which includes changes to laws and Acts to promote homosexuality. The book warned of the coming homosexual co-adoptions (legalised at court level, 10 September 2002) and the institutionalisation of so-called homosexual marriages (partnerships) (case brought before the Pretoria High Court, 16 October 2002). So far the book's accuracy has proven to be prophetic. Frighteningly, The Pink Agenda goes on to warn of the next wave in the sexual revolution, the acceptance of paedophilia (the South African Law Commission is paving the way for paedophilia; proposing changes to the Child Care Act that would allow children to enter marriage type relationships).

The homosexual lobby has full access to the youth of South Africa through the current sexually explicit curriculum. CEO of loveLife, Dr David Harrison, told a gathering of evangelical ministers (10 October 2002), representatives for the Muslim Judicial Council and Jewish Ecclesiastical Board, that loveLife promotes homosexuality, and will not back down, and that homosexuality is enshrined in the Constitution. However, the Constitutional Court ruled that "…those persons who for reasons religious or other belief disagree with or condemn homosexual conduct are free to hold and articulate such beliefs." We should therefore take full advantage of this opportunity while there is still hope. The message of loveLife is reaching 350 000 people every month! LoveLife has a budget in excess of R600 million. LoveLife is a front for Planned Parenthood, which is the world's largest abortion provider.

Chapter 7 of The Pink Agenda deals with the homosexualisation of sex education. Christian youth workers in public schools are beginning to see the signs - more homosexual experimentation and general confusion about the moral correctness of the homosexual behaviour and acts. The Pink Agenda offers hope for the person trapped in the homosexual lifestyle, references over 80 scientific studies, looks at the myth that people are born gay, reviews the history of the homosexual movement in South Africa and considers the implications for marriage, the family and society.

To combat the homosexualisation of South Africa's youth Africa Christian Action is embarking on a project to raise sponsorship to donate a copy of The Pink Agenda to every school library in the country.

TO DO THIS, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Each PINK AGENDA book costs R58 (R2 of each book sold goes to Evangelical organisations that successfully counsel homosexuals to leave the lifestyle).

The Greatest Century of Missions

South African State Education has recently undergone radical ideological changes. This has affected all aspects of the curriculum, with a special emphasis on the rewriting of history. "History…will specifically address human rights issues such as "prejudice, persecution, oppression, exploitation, sexism and racism, xenophobia, genocide and other forms of discrimination." History will "promote an awareness of the violation of human rights in the period of exploration, colonialisation and slavery" (Social Sciences, History, Grade 6 Focus, Africa). Tragically the state wishes to teach history from a Marxist perspective, coupled with the promotion of Evolution (Social Sciences, History, Grade 7 Focus).

This compulsory anti-Christian, secular curriculum could result in the following curse, lest we act appropriately:

"…Another generation arose after them who did not know the LORD nor the work which He had done…." Judges 2:10. This of course resulted in a post-modern, situational ethics culture that embraced relativism and secular humanism. "In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes." Judges 21:25.

The Greatest Century of Missions is an evangelical history book, ideally suited to the South African History specified outcomes. The Greatest Century of Missions, by Dr Peter Hammond, is a treasure trove of incredible adventures, inspiring exploits and unbelievable achievements of some of the most extra-ordinary people in the most momentous era of Christian advance. Real life heroes and heroines, inspiring stories and the truth about how slaves, widow burning, cannibalism and other social evils were eradicated.

Dr. George Grant in his Introduction writes: "…To cultures endemic with terrible poverty, brutality, lawlessness, and disease, those faithful Christian witnesses interjected the novel Christian concepts of grace, charity, law, medicine and the sanctity of life. They overturned despots, liberated the captives and rescued the perishing. They established hospitals. They founded orphanages. They started rescue missions. They built almshouses. They opened soup kitchens. They incorporated charitable societies. They changed laws. They demonstrated love. They lived as if people really mattered. Wherever missionaries went, they faced a dual challenge: confront sin in men's hearts and confront sin in men's cultures…The Greatest Century of Missions…makes the individual missionaries come to life…see the great pioneers, these culture-shapers, these soul-winners and nation-builders of the 19th Century in an entirely new light…see a glorious transformation of men and nations…"

Given the fact that the current school curriculum is anti-God, Africa Christian Action is starting a project to raise sponsorship to donate a copy of The Greatest Century of Missions to every school library in the country.

TO DO THIS, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Each Greatest Century of Missions book costs R68.
