Missions in The Mall (2012)

STOP the Traffick!
Due to greater mall restrictions on religious organisations, we focussed on mobilising people to take action against the exploitation of women in human trafficking. Two new tracts were developed for our outreaches this year. STOP the Traffick exposes the global challenge of human trafficking and pinpoints what we can do to help set the captives free.

Thousands of Muslims gladly received our pamphlet on “modern-day slavery” but little did they know that the pamphlet contained a Gospel presentation! We pray that many seeds will be sown through this message of “Jesus Came to Set the Captives Free!”

We also partnered with two anti-trafficking organisations – STOP Trafficking and Justice Acts. Several of their volunteers joined us for the outreaches and we used some of their posters and banners. Our pamphlet encouraged people to support STOP’s Safe House for rescued victims of trafficking, report brothels to the Vice Squad, and to “Traffick Proof” their school or community.

We also dealt with these issues on 2 of our Salt and Light radio programmes on Radio Tygerberg in the run up to Women’s Day.

Fight the New Drug
Our second new tract exposes how pornography is like a drug in the way that it rewires your brain and is as addictive as hard drugs such as cocaine.

The tract also points out how pornography fuels the demand for prostitution and therefore trafficking.

This proved a “crafty” method of encouraging teenagers to read the tract as they thought they were receiving a pamphlet on drugs!

STOP the Traffick and Fight the New Drug can be downloaded from here.

Whom the Son Sets Free is Free Indeed!
We also made three new balloon designs this year with an anti-trafficking focus. Children were plainly delighted with the colourful balloons and soon the malls were filled with hundreds of balloons proclaiming: “Stop Human Trafficking” and the Scriptures: “Whom the Son sets free is free indeed” John 8:36 and “You will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free” John 8:33.

Choose Life
A donation from Heritage House, the largest pro-life resources store in America, enabled us to also distribute 500 balloons with pro-life messages proclaiming: “Take my hand not my life”, “Love them both – Choose Life”, “Celebrate Life”, and “A person is a person no matter how small”.

Flowers
A farmer’s wife donated 40 posies of flowers for us to distribute to elderly widowed or lonely women as an encouragement.

Thank you

Nefarious Film Screening
For two weeks in a row at the Reformation Society, our boardroom was tightly packed for screenings of the anti-trafficking documentary, by Exodus Cry: Nefarious: Merchant of Souls.
