Reformation and Revival Seminar

Dr. Peter Hammond presented a Reformation and Revival Seminar at KwaSizabantu Mission Schulzendal. The team also conducted an Evangelism Workshop and dealt with Christian Action issues.

Pro-life Activist’s Sentence Overturned

On 7 March, the Cape Town High Court overturned the conviction and 3 month prison sentence of Peter Throp of “Value Life” for placing Value Life stickers over illegal back-street abortion stickers, pasted on public property across the city. The City of Cape Town prosecuted Peter Throp for protecting the sanctity of life by concealing the harmful illegal abortion stickers festooning city property with his own “Value Life” stickers.

Unconstitutional New Home-schooling Policy Withdrawn

The Western Cape Education Department’s (WCED) policy on home-schooling was withdrawn recently after the Pestalozzi Trust alerted home-schoolers about unconstitutional enforcement of “national values.”

According to Leendert Van Oostrum, of the Pestalozzi Trust (which seeks to act as an advocate and representative body for home-schoolers), both the ANC and DA policies on private education are unconstitutional because it prescribes the “National Curriculum Statement.” Van Oostrum warns “the WCED'S Policy is more worrying.” The DA provincial government prescribes standards of education, content, and imposes liberal ideological values on private schools. More disturbing is the bizarre policy that students must be promoted to a higher grade after three years irrespective of educational improvement – which ensures quantity not quality. The W/Cape Education Department policy also enforces the National Curriculum on private educational institutions – which transforms private schools into self-funded public schools.

Gender Equality Bill Amended to Exempt Churches

As a result of submissions by “Freedom of Religion SA” (FORSA), “the Justice Alliance of SA” (JASA) & “Cause for Justice,” the Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality (WEGE) Bill was amended to exempt Churches and NGO’s from complying with government enforced quota systems.

Remain Vigilant

We praise God for these victories for Christian freedoms. Please remain vigilant in prayer and action against any attempts to limit religious freedom. May these incidents be a wake-up call to Christians heading off the polls on 7 May – examine carefully the policies of each party and vote according to Biblical principles.
